About The Forces Scheme

Who we are

Working under the Straker Financial Services banner, we are a dedicated team of insurance specialists who are directly connected to the British Armed Forces. Combining our knowledge of the military with our financial expertise, we have created a scheme that is tailored specifically to the needs of the community.

How we can help

Our insurance packages can provide generous cover for service people who live on their own orwith their families in SFA, private homes or similar, anywhere in the world.

The insurance is designed to meet the needs of Service Personnel and their families by providing life and critical illness cover as well as cover for losses to property which may occur as a result of fire, burglary, theft or other insured perils.

Why use us?

The military community is a unique group of individuals, and the challenges they face can be particularly difficult. We understand that.

As a team of advisors with direct links to the forces, we understand that you may be dealing with specialist duties, deployment issues, or other challenges that can make life hard. We also know that you may have existing medical conditions that need special attention.

We’re here to help you get through these challenges—and beyond them.

Life Cover

If you are a serving military personnel or ex-service member and have a family, then it’s worth taking out life insurance to ensure that they are protected should the worst happen.

Our life insurance package is available to anyone who works in the Army, Navy, RAF or other branches of military service, reservists, ex-service personnel and Ministry of Defence civil servants (and the wider military family).

People who work in military service have a higher occupational risk than individuals with civilian jobs such as working in an office. Often military personnel will find themselves operating complex and dangerous machinery, working with hazardous materials or working in conflict zones – quite a bit different to being sat behind a desk in an office! So if you work in the armed forces then it’s worthwhile seeking out proper military life insurance cover to ensure your family is protected and cared for financially should the worst happen.

Life Cover vs AFCS

The Armed Forces Compensation Scheme (AFCS) is a government-run program that provides compensation for injuries and deaths that occur during service as a member of the armed forces. If you are injured or killed in service, you are automatically entitled to get benefits via AFCS.

If you’re single, or have no dependents, life insurance may not be a priority for you. However, depending on your personal circumstances, taking out additional life insurance cover could be of benefit, especially if a partner, children, or family rely on your income, or if you have a large debt such as a mortgage.

Our dedicated team can provide advice on the different types of cover available and help you identify any gaps in your protection.

The Army and Air Force Compensation Scheme (AFCS) may only pay out benefits if you are injured or killed in active service, which means that you may not be covered if something happens to you outside of your work.

Critical Illness

Critical illness and Serious illness protection are types of long-term cover that provide financial protection in the event of you suffering a Serious Illness.

Critical and Serious Illness cover will pay out tax-free payments following a successful claim. These payments aim to provide financial support when you most need it. You can get an overview of how Critical illness and Serious illness policies work below:

Critical Illness Protection provides tax-free lump sum payments if you suffer from one or more of the following illnesses: Heart Attack, Stroke, Cancer, Amputation/loss of limb/sight/speech, Chronic Respiratory Problems/Pneumonia/Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Serious Illness Protection provides tax-free lump sum payments if you suffer from one or more of the following illnesses: Leukaemia, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s Disease (PD), Cystic Fibrosis (CF).
